Terence Crawford stuns Canelo Alvarez with masterclass to make history and snatch rival’s undisputed titles

Terence Crawford overcame the odds to beat Canelo Alvarez on Saturday night.

The Omaha puncher put on a boxing clinic in front of a record 70,482 fans at Las Vegas' Allegiant Stadium to snatch the undisputed super middleweight crown from Canelo.

Moving up two weight classes, several detractors insisted 'Bud' was too small to dethrone his much bigger foe, but the boxing icon proved them wrong with a punch perfect display.

In doing so, he becomes the first male three-weight undisputed champion of the four-belt era, after reigning supreme over the super lightweight and welterweight divisions.

The feat pulls him away from fellow modern greats Oleksandr Usyk and Naoya Inoue, and will surely see him top the pound-for-pound list come Monday morning.

Canelo trudged forward, looking to cut down the ring and work the body, while Crawford neutralised the Mexican's offence with busy boxing.

The champion found a home for some flashy shots when he trapped his adversary against the ropes, but the activity favoured Crawford, who was outboxing the champion from mid-range. 

Heading into the eighth round, Crawford was pulling away, injecting a much-needed sense of urgency into Canelo's work.

The 35-year-old began to throw consistent combinations for the first time in the fight after previously winging heavy single shots.
